Winter in the Cape means longer hours of darkness. The same buildings you pass in the summer on your morning walks take on a whole different feeling when plunged into the darkness of winter. I often pass the university I studied at, Michaelis, on my morning walk. I didn't know many early birds when I was a student, so when I see some lights on, I wonder which art student is burning the midnight oil, skipping a night of sleep to finish their latest art project. The lit windows and the moon in view create a scene of quiet dedication.
