13/10/2021- “Garden Geese”
These modern day dinosaurs patrol the park I run in. While they never really stop you from running, they wait until the very last second to get out of the way. With their thin legs, they waddle up and down the brick walkways of the Company Gardens, often with their gosslings in tow.
They spend a good deal of their time honking, hollering and cackling from atop the old colonial statues that line the park. They also seem to take pleasure in scaring the odd child who strays too close. These geese are so commonplace, it is easy to overlook how misplaced they feel in the big city.
These Egyptian geese look like they should be on a desert lake near some crocodiles, with their alert eyes and intricate feather patterns. I played with the colours of their plumage a bit. Maybe if they were electric blue and red they would feel as though they fit better in Cape Town.
